Even though James Gunn has already unveiled the entire slate for Chapter 1 – Gods & Monsters, some fans still can’t wrap their heads around the fact the SnyderVerse has finally been killed off for good.
Sure, some characters may continue to lurk around the franchise for the foreseeable future – with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller a notable example since she’s getting her own HBO Max spinoff series set in Peacemaker‘s corner of the shared universe – but we can officially say with the utmost certainty that Zack Snyder’s vision will remain uncompleted.
However, that hasn’t stopped a hardy band of supporters from deciding that if the SnyderVerse won’t be restored or resurrected, Netflix can simply buy it instead. Of course, even thinking about the legal and contractual ramifications for more than a second renders such a thing as close to impossible as it gets, but you’ve got to at least admire the enthusiasm.
That being said, the latest stage in the coordinated campaign has drawn eye-rolls of derision from many corners of the internet, after the #SellSnyderVersetoNetflix movement began mobilizing the troops for an all-out assault on Twitter one week from today. That date of course also happens to be Valentine’s Day, so the jokes are basically writing themselves at this point.
The unsavory reputation that some sections of the comic book fandom still hold isn’t done any favors by the most romantic day of the year being used as a springboard to launch a semi-delusional offensive on Warner Bros., DC Studios, and Netflix that isn’t going to reap any tangible rewards. Funnily enough, we expect a lot of high-ranking officials and executives to be busy with their partners and spouses that day.
