One of the most fascinating elements of the DCU’s Chapter 1 – Gods & Monsters will be seeing which existing stars remain on board, which characters end up being recast, and who winds up being brought into the fold to bring the raft of debutants to life. Thanks to The Flash, though, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remains one of the most scrutinized propositions.
James Gunn has gone on record as touting Andy Muschietti’s multiversal caper as one of the best superhero blockbusters he’s ever seen, and if the hype is translated into a box office bonanza, then the co-CEO will have a dilemma on his hands. Not only will the future of Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen become a lot more secure in theory, but there’s also Sasha Calle’s Kara Zor-El to consider.
Should the actress win rave reviews for her performance as Clark Kent’s cousin, then you’d imagine a groundswell of support to build behind her keeping the role ahead of Woman of Tomorrow. Of course, Gunn and Peter Safran may have already made the decision whether to stick or twist, but it’s a Smallville alumni who’s popped up to remind the filmmaker she exists.

Fellow Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum – who also happens to be a longtime friend of Gunn’s – has already revealed his interest in becoming the DCU’s Lex Luthor, and while it’s unlikely that Gunn would pick his new cast members from a show that ended over a decade ago, it doesn’t make it any less interesting to think about.
