A James Bond front-runner rules himself out of the running by suggesting the role has secretly been cast already

A tantalizing tease, to say the least.

If the rumor mill were to be taken at face value – which it definitely shouldn’t, we should add – then the smart money would be on Aaron Taylor-Johnson being named as the next James Bond.

The actor has artfully dodged the speculation on more than one occasion, but it can’t helped but be noticed that he ticks virtually every single box producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are looking for. He’s well-known without being a superstar, looks good in a tux, is a proven actor with real dramatic chops and blockbuster experience, and at 32 years old could conceivably be 007 for at least a decade.

Funnily enough, all of the attributes mentioned above also apply to Taron Egerton, who often finds himself named among the front-runners whenever the regular deluge of scuttlebutt begins. However, while speaking to Total Film, the Kingsman veteran tantalizingly ruled himself out of the running by suggesting that the part has already been cast.

“I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me. Yeah. I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never inquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

Bond might be too similar to Eggsy for Egerton to even consider a hypothetical offer anyway, but if he’s right in stating that the producers already have somebody in mind that isn’t him, then color us curious to find out who it is.
