Though it seemed like Rosamund Pike was the frontrunner in the race to join David Fincher’s Gone Girl, today we have three more actresses emerging as contenders. Abbie Cornish, Olivia Wilde and Julianne Hough are the three names being tossed around today for the lead female role in the upcoming adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel.
Originally, we heard that Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt were up for it. Then, Rosamund Pike came out of nowhere and it seemed like she was all but confirmed to take the part. Now we’re hearing about these three additional names and once again, it’s all up in the air.
Whomever lands the highly sought after role will star alongside Ben Affleck, who will play a former journalist who becomes a suspect when his wife goes missing on the night of their fifth wedding anniversary.
From what we’re hearing, Theron has lost interest and Portman and Blunt may have scheduling conflicts. Pike is still on the director’s list but they haven’t had a meeting yet. Apparently, the reason that Fincher is now looking at names that are not as high up on the A-list is because of budget concerns. Obviously, taking someone like Rosamund Pike would be a lot cheaper for the studio than if they were to go with someone like Natalie Portman.
Either way, this being a David Fincher film, and with Ben Affleck already set to star, you can be sure that the rest of the cast for Gone Girl will fill up quickly. And when it does, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
