Pitch Perfect star Adam Devine has entered talks to star alongside Neighbors‘ Zac Efron in Fox’s comedy, Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates. Thankfully, the descriptive nature of its title means that the movie won’t be throwing any curveballs with a misleading, enigmatic name. Currently in development, it’s based on the true story of two brothers from Albany, New York, who tried to find dates for their cousin’s wedding by putting an ad on Craigslist which then went viral.
The big screen adaptation, which Chernin Entertainment will be producing for Fox, is expected to insert a few story twists. In addition to the real life incident, the movie will find the two party-mad siblings meet their match when two equally crazy girls respond to their ad. Sounds like we could be in for more frat-y frolics and boozing!
Variety goes on to report that the studio “felt the need to test actors for Efron’s co-star in hopes of finding someone who had the right chemistry [with him.]” Out of the shortlist who tried for the role, apparently it was Devine’s “mix of wit and raunchiness in his delivery” that landed him the part. This comes as no surprise as the actor is building up a solid resume of sharp, comedic turns that range from the softer side (TV’s Modern Family) to the more cutting (Pitch Perfect).
Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates is directed by Jake Szymansk and based on a script by Neighbors scribes Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. We’ll keep you posted as more updates arise.
