Though Marvel is focusing on hot, young actors for the lead role in their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film, they are looking elsewhere for talent to round out the supporting cast.
Latino Review is reporting that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey may be in the mix for a role in the film as the studio is apparently looking to infuse some comedy into the upcoming movie, which will be directed by James Gunn.
No word yet on which role the actors are up for but we know that it won’t be the lead role, that of Peter Quill. That leaves Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Groot. It is also unknown whether the actors are up for two different parts, or the same role. As of now there is no confirmation from the studio on any of this so while we wait on official word, all we can do is speculate.
Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with the source material so I can’t speak to which character would be best suited for some comedy but the consensus on the internet seems to be that Rocket Raccoon would be a good match for Carrey’s vast array of funny voices.
As for additional casting news, we’re hearing that Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet have been thrown into the mix for the lead role, pushing the number of actors on Marvel’s shortlist to well over 20. Seriously, in the past month or so, every young, good looking, somewhat talented actor has been rumored for the role of Peter Quill.
Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st, 2014. What do you think of this news? Would you like to see Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey in a Marvel film? Which part do you think they should play? Let us know in the comments below.
