Holy animated reunion, Batman! Adam West and Burt Ward, who played the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder in the 1960s Batman television series, have announced that they’re going to reunite and lend their voices to a new animated Bat film in 2016, just in time for the beloved show’s 50th anniversary.
The two dropped the news during a panel at the Mad Monster convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend. The former dynamic duo, who have guest starred in various animated projects like The Simpsons and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, didn’t go into details about what the film could entail, but did say that it will run for 90 minutes and that there could in fact be two of them on the horizon.
This is great news for fans of the original series, and those who’ve read up on the fun Batman ’66 continuation that DC Comics launched in 2013. It will also serve as some fun, campy counter-programming to Ben Affleck’s darker Caped Crusader, who will make his debut in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
As always, we’ll keep you posted on any news about this project as it breaks. In the meantime, sound off about your thoughts and hopes for this new animated film in the comments below.
