Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may have not gone down too well with critics, but one thing that most people agreed upon was that Ben Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader was excellent. He’s one of the few bright spots in the otherwise disappointing DCEU and as such, fans are excited to see more of his version of the iconic hero in both Justice League and The Batman.
While the former film is less than a year away now, and may be getting a new trailer next week, Big Ben’s solo outing for the Dark Knight isn’t arriving until 2018 at the earliest. We’ve heard that it may start shooting in the spring, but according to the actor-director-writer, he’s still working on the script and won’t head into production until he’s 100% happy with it.
He’s relayed this several times now, but in a new interview that surfaced over the weekend, Affleck said once again that he’s going to make sure he has “something special.”
“I’m still working on the script,” the actor said. “I’m not going to write and direct anything that I don’t think is good enough to be made. I’m definitely going to make sure I have something that is special–there’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it.”
It’s clear that Affleck isn’t going to just rush the film into production to meet a studio deadline. No, the actor is fully committed to delivering a fan-pleasing outing for the Caped Crusader, one that will hopefully go some way to redeem the DCEU’s rocky start. His dedication to the character has been extremely evident ever since he signed on to play him and seeing how passionate he’s been about The Batman over the past year or so has us feeling very optimistic about the film so far.
We know that Affleck has complete creative control over the solo outing, too, which means that it’s definitely in good hands. While there may not be very much information on it out in the open just yet, we’re inclined to believe Big Ben when he says that it’s going to be something special. Can it top what Nolan did with the character? That remains to be seen, but we definitely think it’ll be a big step up from Dawn of Justice.
Tell us, even despite the failures of Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad, do you still have faith in the DCEU? If so, do you think Affleck can deliver on his promise with The Batman? Sound off in the usual place and let us know!
