First Look At Al Pacino In David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn

While David Gordon Green's upcoming film Joe is currently making the rounds on the festival circuit, gearing up for its April release, the director is already hard at work on putting the finishing touches on his next effort, Manglehorn. Starring Al Pacino and Holly Hunter, the film looks like it could really give a bit of a boost to Pacino's career, which has been in a tremendous slump lately. In fact, I honestly can't remember the last time that the legendary actor gave a solid performance. It was probably 4 years ago on the small screen with HBO's You Don't Know Jack.

But I digress. Manglehorn seems like a great, low key movie for Pacino to find his groove with again. It tells the story of an ex-con who is trying to start his life over as a locksmith in a small town. However, his dark past comes back to haunt him and could potentially expose him to his fellow townspeople.

It’s obvious that Pacino isn’t doing this one just for the paycheck (unlike some of his other recent films), and with a talented director like David Gordon Green behind the camera, I really do think that we might see a return to form for the Hollywood icon. At least, I hope we do. It’s been far too long since Pacino has shown us why he’s one of the best in the business.
