Deadline is reporting tonight that after an enormous search for a lead actor to portray one of the most iconic cinematic characters of all-time, Disney is eyeing Alden Ehrenreich to play Han Solo in their upcoming Star Wars spinoff film.
Last we heard, Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor were both in contention as well for the coveted role, but sources close to the production say that Ehrenreich is the studio’s first choice. That being said, this is by no means final as Disney hasn’t confirmed the casting nor do we know if he’s even signed on for sure yet. All we can tell you at this stage is that he’s the frontrunner for the role.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the Han Solo film is currently pegged for a May 25th, 2018 release and supposedly focuses on the smuggler before he joined up with the Rebel Alliance. Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon are on scripting duties, but given that it’s so early on in the production cycle, we don’t have any other plot details to report on.
We’ll no doubt get some more news on the casting front shortly, now that the cat’s out of the bag. Until we do, however, tell us, do you think Alden Ehrenreich is a good choice to play Han Solo?
