Variety is reporting that True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard has joined a new film called Hidden. The thriller is set up at Warner Bros. and it’s being described as “an elevated horror-thriller about a family hiding in a bomb shelter after escaping a mysterious outbreak.” Matt and Ross Duffer sold the spec script to the studio and they will also be sitting in the director chairs for this one.

Though his most notable credit is True Blood, Skarsgard is starting to build up his film resume. Last year saw him starring in Lars von Trier‘s Melancholia and Rod Lurie‘s Straw Dogs and this year he’ll show up in Peter Berg‘s Battleship. He’s also recently wrapped roles in Zal Batmanglij‘s thriller The East and Henry-Alex Rubin‘s Disconnect.

Personally, I think Skarsgard is a talented young actor who will likely have a bright future. True Blood won’t be on the air for too much longer and once it ends, Skarsgard can really focus on his film career. I enjoyed his performance in Melancholia as well as Straw Dogs (despite it being a pretty awful film). I’m sure he won’t do anything significant in Battleship but it is a high profile project that will undoubtedly strengthen his star, which is already shining pretty bright thanks to his success on HBO’s hit vampire show.

What do you think? Does Skarsgard have what it takes to be a bonafide movie star?
