It looks like Jamie Dornan has found yet another post-Fifty Shades of Grey gig, as Deadline reports that the actor will star in The 9th Life of Louis Drax, a psychological thriller which French director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension) will helm.
An adaptation of Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel of the same name, the film will follow its titular character who “suffers a near-fatal fall on his ninth birthday. In order to reveal the strange circumstances surrounding the boy’s accident, Dr. Allan Pascal (Dornan) is drawn into a thrilling mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.”
“Max’s script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life,” said Aja.
Scripted by actor Max Minghella (making his screenwriting debut here), The 9th Life of Louis Drax is currently set up over at Miramax and will be one of the first projects to come from the 20-year development deal that the company signed with Bob and Harvey Weinstein late last year.
While Dornan is still a relatively unproven talent, it is nice to see him grabbing yet another post-Fifty gig. This project sounds quite interesting, too. I haven’t read Jensen’s novel, but the plot synopsis is definitely intriguing and Aja is a proven talent when it comes to horror, so the film could turn out to be a spooky supernatural thrill ride with Dornan getting another chance to show us that he’s more than just a pretty face.
Shooting on The 9th Life Of Louis Drax will get underway this November in Vancouver. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
