Animation veteran Brenda Chapman is poised to make the jump to live-action with Come Away, a high-profile fairytale that’s considered a prequel to both Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.

Bringing the worlds of Wonderland and Neverland together, Marissa Kate Goodhill is the creative mind behind the screenplay, imagining a scenario in which Peter and Alice grow up as siblings, living under the shadow of an elder brother who, tragically, dies in a car accident and sends the pair on separate paths as they each deal with despair.

It’s an intriguing blend of two classic tales, and Deadline posted an official synopsis that gives us an inkling of the adventure that Goodhill is plotting.

“Before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister. When their eldest brother dies in a tragic accident, they each seek to save their parents from their downward spirals of despair until finally they are forced to choose between home and imagination, setting the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.”

Among the roster of producers on this one are Michelle Manning, Leesa Kahn and Andrea Keir, who championed Chapman’s appointment at the helm:

“Brenda is a true visionary and her previous experience in perfectly creating imaginary worlds with such precise detail is exactly what is needed to bring to life Marissa’s enchanting script,” they said in a statement.

And so, those characters made famous by Lewis Carroll and J.M. Barrie are poised to share the screen together in Come Away. But does the unconventional take pique your interest?
