With Lucasfilm refusing to spill any details on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX and the cast kept silent by the studio’s increasingly excessive spoiler security measures, fans have been relying on rumors and alleged leaks for a lot of their info, leaving the forums pretty vulnerable to false claims and fakery.
That being said, when this alleged logo popped up on Reddit, user Garrett Thomas at least offered a pretty solid deadline for determining its authenticity, asserting last night that “something is coming in the next 2 days, either on ESPN or ABC.” So while this supposed leak might well have been created by a fan with Photoshop, we won’t have long to wait before we get some confirmation either way.
As you can see, the logo presents the title of “Star Wars: Son of Darkness,” which Thomas claimed a couple of weeks ago to be the name. Time will tell whether or not this is the real thing, but the suggestion perhaps earns a little credence from the fact that Snoke refers to Kylo Ren by the aforementioned subtitle in The Last Jedi.
As for what exactly might be coming to ESPN or ABC today or tomorrow, the rumor from earlier this month was that a trailer would drop by Christmas, but as the 25th draws ever nearer, the alternate prediction has emerged that we could instead get a behind-the-scenes featurette.
Then again, with the movie not due for release for almost twelve months, perhaps Lucasfilm intends to save its promotional material for next year. We’ll know soon enough, but regardless of what these coming days bring, we’ll be seeing the film in full when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
