Luke Skywalker is, without question, one of the most renown and instantly recognizable characters in film history, and Mark Hamill’s Jedi Master has garnered a great aura of power and gravitas since he first left the sun-scorched plains of Tatooine all those years ago.
And though he may have slipped off the radar prior to The Force Awakens, we now know that Skywalker’s self-imposed exile has led him to Ahch-To, the rocky outcrop otherwise known as the First Jedi Temple. He’s not alone, either, with sketches revealing the cutesy alien allies – namely Porgs – that Luke has befriended on the primordial isle. Now, thanks to Making Star Wars, today brings forth new information pertaining to Luke’s equipment as it’ll allegedly appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The report, while unverified, hints at Luke Skywalker’s quest to find Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). Among his possessions are a backpack, a walking stick and a compass (no Lightsaber?) deemed to be “the most beautiful piece of craftsmanship” ever seen in the Star Wars saga. A bold claim, but it only has us all the more intrigued to bear witness to Luke’s journey in The Last Jedi.
Speaking of which, while Making Star Wars notes that those three instruments have helped Mark Hamill’s wise old Jedi connect to the Force from Ahch-To, the report goes on to suggest that by the time Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel reaches its finale, our two heroes will essentially diverge onto two separate paths: Luke vs. Snoke and Rey vs. Kylo Ren, round two. The former will likely be held until Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX, which is expected to be with us in May of 2019.
However, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is next to tumble off Disney’s production line, and it’ll do so on December 15th of this year.
