With a release date now set (June 1, 2012), Rock Of Ages is gearing up. With leading man Tom Cruise already cast, the filmmakers have to find someone to play the other lead role and it looks as if today they may have found their leading lady. Deadline is reporting that Amy Adams is being considered to star opposite Cruise. The role would be the same one that Anne Hathaway was offered. Hathaway had to decline though because of scheduling conflicts with The Dark Knight Rises. Adams would play a journalist who is doing a profile on Cruise’s character. If Adams decides to sign on, she’ll not only join Cruise, but also Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige.
Adams is a three time Oscar nominee, most recently for The Fighter, so she would certainly bring something to the role. I think her chemistry with Cruise would also be interesting to see. Although she’s not confirmed yet, I’m behind this choice.
For those unfamiliar with the film, it follows “a small town girl (Hough) who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it. She catches the eye of Stacee Jaxx (Cruise), playing an arrogant rocker at the height of his career, ends up as a stripper in a club run by Blige but also finds true love at the end.”
