Even though Andrew Garfield got to take another crack at his version of the friendly neighborhood webhead in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a dream come true for fans of The Amazing Spider-Man film franchise, the actor has had to live a lie and hide what must’ve arguably been the most important occasion in his career.
In short, no one would wish to be in his stead, whatever you might say about the privilege of getting to portray the iconic superhero on the big screen. Unlike Tobey Maguire, who had it easy, relatively speaking, almost every interview and public appearance of Andrew’s over the past year has somehow ended with the actor insisting that he’s not in the new Spider-Man flick.
Of course, the Tick, Tick… Boom! star can discuss the film openly now that the cat’s out of the bag, but he’s recently revealed to have gone to more extreme lengths than we know to make sure that nobody knew about the surprise appearance, not even his former Spider-Man co-star and partner, Emma Stone.
During a recent chat with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield revealed that he didn’t spill the tea for Emma, saying:
“Emma kept on texting me, she was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.'”
I don’t suppose telling Stone would do much harm, especially given all the rumors that were already floating around the internet, but I can think of a few people at Disney and Sony who definitely wouldn’t approve, least of all MCU boss Kevin Feige.
