Andy Serkis offers a status update on ‘The Batman – Part II’ script

It's early days yet, but it sounds like Reeves is cooking up something special

The Batman – Part II is officially in development, with Warner Bros. recently confirming it’ll land in theaters in October 2025. That’s a ways off yet, but after the events of the opener, it’s safe to say we’ll see a new side of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, as well as more of Barry Keoghan’s Joker.

Another familiar face we can expect back is Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth, who took a beating in the first movie, but remains dedicated to supporting Batman in everything he does. Serkis will next appear alongside Idris Elba in Luther: Fallen Son and, in an interview with ComicBook, gave a quick update on what’s currently going on with the sequel:

“I don’t even know if the script’s finished. I have no idea, only that my good friend Matt Reeves is writing away, but I don’t know what’ll be in [it]. I have no idea.”

Reeves has a decent amount of time to get this right. We recently got confirmation from The Batman executive producer Michael Uslan that the shoot will begin this November, though the presumably grand sets, action sequence planning, and VFX work will mean Reeves needs to get at least his first draft of the script locked in by springtime.

Before that, we’re returning to Reeves’ Gotham City with HBO show The Penguin, which follows Colin Farrell’s critically-acclaimed take on Oswald Cobblepot. That shoot began in New York City earlier this month and will last most of the year, presumably arriving on screens at some point in 2024.

With James Gunn’s DCU happy to incorporate alternative takes on characters as Elseworlds stories, we’re hoping the Reevesverse sticks around for a long time yet.

The Batman – Part II hits theaters on October 3, 2025.
