Continuing her mission to infect mainstream and indie cinema with her inherent likeability and endless charm, Anna Kendrick is now set for another comedic performance in Fox’s Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates. The film’s descriptive title somewhat sums up the premise of Funny Or Die alum Jake Szymanski’s forthcoming caper, which stars Kendrick’s Pitch Perfect colleague Adam Devine and Neighbors frat rat Zac Efron.
The aforementioned male duo lead the movie as the titular Mike and Dave, a couple of single brothers in desperate need of dates for an upcoming wedding. As opposed to hitting a bar or possibly persuading female friends to accompany them, they opt to post a classified ad online hoping to attract suitable dates via more digital means. What’s interesting about the premise, which falls in line with the scope of today’s modern R-rated comedies, is that it’s actually based on a true story. Two brothers really did try to secure dates via Craigslist and their subsequent ad promptly went viral.
Dubbed “hard-partying and immature,” the siblings eventually snag two women to accompany them who manage to outdo the brothers’ drunken antics. This is where Kendrick comes in. According to THR, her character will be paired off with Zac Efron’s studly partier, and is described as “a wild child with a romantic heart.” Expect a host of debauched shenanigans followed by sober realizations around the third act, which ought to be a breeze for the actress who manages to steal practically every movie she’s in.
You can catch Kendrick and Devine in Pitch Perfect 2 on May 15, with Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates expected to lens sometime later this year.
