You may feel a little prick – and no, we’re not referring to Charles Lee Ray’s demonic doppelgänger.
Today, our attention is drawn toward a striking new banner image for Cult of Chucky, the horror sequel coming by way of writer-director Don Mancini, who has amassed multiple credits in the famous Child’s Play franchise through Curse of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, not to mention his work on the screenplay that started it all back in ’88.
Dubbed the direct follow-up to 2013’s Curse of Chucky, Mancini’s creepy continuation is poised for a direct-to-video launch in October, lending fans ample opportunity to pick up Chucky’s latest murderous romp in time for All Hallow’s Eve. This means of distribution will also bring about a slew of extras to coincide with the film’s debut, including a featurette designed to shed light on Alterian, the studio that houses many of the creative geniuses behind Chucky’s puppeteering.
Not unlike yesterday’s reveal, below you’ll see the devil doll flash a manic grin as it looks toward the camera, syringe in hand. We’re beginning to suspect that we’ll feel more than a little prick on October 3rd.
Back in the voice booth to portray that fearsome Good Guy doll is Brad Dourif. His daughter, Fiona Dourif, is also involved in the Child’s Play series and will reprise the role of Nica Pierce. Also returning are Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky), Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly, who plays the demented bride of Chucky, a character now considered to be a series regular.
Here’s the official logline that teases all of the nightmarish horrors that await:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
This Halloween season, there’s only one cult worthy of your attention, and that’s the Cult of Chucky. Don Mancini’s nerve-wracking thriller launches on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on October 3rd.
