The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hype train is finally going full steam ahead now that we’ve got officially one month to go until it hits cinemas. To further fuel the flames of the fandom’s excitement for the incoming threequel, Marvel Studios has just dropped a whole load of character posters that highlight the entire Ant-Man family. Plus, in a surprising move, a character we assumed was only set to be a supporting player, as portrayed by the film’s most controversial cast member.
The seven posters obviously spotlight the two title characters, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), not to mention the movie’s next-gen heroine Cassie (Kathryn Newton), and its arch-villain Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). In addition, the OG Ant-Man and Wasp Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) likewise get their own one-sheets. Last but not least, so does none other than Lord Krylar, Bill Murray’s role in the production.
The fact that Murray’s getting his own poster is rather shocking for a couple of reasons. For one, it suggests Krylar will be just as important to the storyline as Team Ant-Man and Kang — and here we were expecting him to be little more than a glorified cameo. Secondly, Murray’s casting in the MCU initially seemed like a win-win scenario, but now his Quantumania hiring is somewhat tainted by the misconduct allegations the Ghostbusters star has faced over the past few months.
Clearly, Marvel has decided — rightly or wrongly — that Murray’s historic popularity is enough to offset any recent controversy, so they’ve gone ahead and made him a big part of the film’s promotion. We’ll find out if Krylar is as integral to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as this poster seems to imply when it arrives in theaters on Feb. 17.
