Not for the first time, leaked set videos from Ant-Man and the Wasp suggest Peyton Reed’s 2018 sequel will herald the return of Giant-Man.
Scott Lang’s super-sized alter-ego was last seen tearing up a German airport in Captain America: Civil War, much to the horror of Peter Parker’s young Spider-Man, though it would seem Lang is finally beginning to wrangle his transformative powers under control. At least, that’s the idea.
Besides, given how most, if not all of Giant-Man’s massive anatomy will be rendered in post-production, we can only base our assumptions on unofficial set videos, the latest of which arrives by way of Comic Book Movie. Embedded below, you’ll see Marvel’s production team orchestrating a scene set in San Francisco, the same location of the original Ant-Man, before a driverless flatbed truck rolls into shot.
A source close to CBM posted the following report:
A flatbed truck rolls down the street and stops. And you’ll notice that there’s no one in the actual truck. It’s being driven by a man in the back, disguised as a seat (who must feel very silly). Which, of course, means someone or something will be added in in post. Maybe it’s just a normal character who they’ll shoot on green screen, and he wasn’t there just for security purposes. Or maybe it’s a weird CGI man. Or something else. The possibilities are endless.
Indeed they are. Granted, CBM’s tip goes on to suggest that the truck itself is doubling as a platform for Giant-Man, who will be later added via post-production. This, coupled with the fact that one extra can be heard yelling, “it’s 25 feet tall!” all but confirms Scott Lang’s towering alter-ego for Reed’s follow-up.
And you’ll also notice that it raises up slightly after stopping,” they add. Could it be Giant-Man on the truck? “And the man with the megaphone was telling the extras, “Look at it! What is it? It’s 25 feet tall!” So my guess here is that someone is driving down the street with a massive CGI thing, (maybe using Giant Man tech?) and that thing steps off the bed of the truck, which makes it lift up.
This isn’t the first time that Giant-Man has been linked to the 2018 sequel, nor will it be the last. However, what we do know is that Ant-Man and the Wasp will scurry into theaters in July, nine short weeks after the release of Avengers: Infinity War.
