Mute wasn’t the only new trailer to feature Paul Rudd this week, as Marvel Studios also launched a full-length (and full-sized!) promo for Ant-Man and the Wasp.
One glance at the company’s stacked release schedule will tell you that the Peyton Reed sequel finds itself tucked away under the shadow of Avengers: Infinity War, the superhero ensemble piece 10 years in the making.
Nevertheless, Marvel Studios and head honcho Kevin Feige have juggled crowded slates before, and if there’s one thing we can tell you with absolute certainty, it’s that Ant-Man and the Wasp will herald a timely dose of levity in the aftermath of Infinity War. Coming out of Wednesday’s trailer, comic book fans have been poring over stills of Giant-Man looming over San Francisco Bay and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) getting in on the micro-action.
And while the excitement has been infectious at times, there are those who are beginning to question the science of Ant-Man and the Wasp, whose trailer showed Hank Pym reducing a skyscraper into a suitcase in a matter of seconds. It strains credulity, of course, but for a film about miniature heroes dressed as insects, we’re willing to suspend our disbelief that little bit more.
Speaking of which, up above you’ll get another peek at Reed’s sequel in motion, which is about to forge a kick-ass superhero duo in Ant-Man and the Wasp. And yes, Michael Peña’s Luis, the fast-talking, scene-stealing star of the original, is back in business.
Continuity-wise, Ant-Man and the Wasp actually takes a tiny leaf out of Black Panther‘s book in that the caper sequel largely takes place after Captain America: Civil War. And it’ll all kick off on July 6th.
