Yesterday saw the arrival of the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp. Amongst other things – like some juicy tie-ins to Captain America: Civil War – it gave us a glimpse at the masked villain the Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), who it seems engages in a car chase with the titular insectoid Avengers in the movie. But what was the point of this high-octane sequence?
Well, these new set photos may well provide the answer. The two images show the Ghost holding onto what looks very much like the shrunken Pym Technologies building. You’ll remember that the trailer saw Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) shrink the skyscraper to a convenient travel-ready size as he went on the run, after Scott Lang had exposed his secrets to the world following his joining Team Cap.
MCU Exchange has a solid-sounding theory that matches up with what we know about the film so far. It goes that the Ghost is working for Walton Goggins’ corrupt businessman Sonny Birch, who wants to get his hands (literally) on the building. So when the Ghost retrieves it during the chase scene, as revealed in these images, she’ll hand it over to him. We know this last part because a screenshot from the trailer sees Goggins clutching the mini-building while on the ferry that Giant-Man attacks (Goggins is the guy in the beige suit in the centre).
The site also theorizes that Laurence Fishburne’s Bill Foster has something to do with the theft, though there are conflicting ideas on whether he’s behind it or not. Foster isn’t usually a bad guy, as he’s the super-sized hero Goliath in the comics, but he’s being depicted as an old colleague of Pym’s in the film. Maybe he’s jealous of Pym’s success, like Darren Cross in the first movie?
All will be revealed when Ant-Man and the Wasp buzzes into theaters on July 6th.
