Seeing how the official title for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was announced on January 23rd on the year of its release, many were surprised and disappointed to witness this last month come and go without the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX getting the equivalent treatment. But while it’s evident that Lucasfilm isn’t sticking to quite the same schedule as they used for Rian Johnson’s 2017 flick, a recent social media post from Anthony Daniels at least offers reason to believe that a title drop might be just around the corner.
The C-3PO actor took to Twitter with a tease of something major coming our way, and if it isn’t the official title for J.J. Abrams’ next film, then it’s at least something that Daniels thinks is worth getting excited over:
“How strange. I am receiving images of something amazing coming towards us – travelling over decades through space and time – reaching out to all humans on this planet with its message. What could it be? Should I be afraid? Should you? Stay tuned.”
Given the timing of this post, a title reveal certainly feels like one of the better guesses for what Daniels could be hinting at, but while we probably shouldn’t expect a full trailer for the movie until the Star Wars Celebration in April, surely a little footage this month isn’t completely out of the question.
Just last week, Daniels got a lot of Star Wars fans feeling sentimental when he tweeted that he’d filmed his last scenes for Episode IX, adding that both he and 3PO were saddened to see their time on the set come to a close. Indeed, this year’s trilogy-closer feels like the end of an era, and while we certainly can’t rule out seeing 3PO on our screens once more, this could well be the final opportunity for the character to interact with fellow Original Trilogy regulars like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.
We’ll find out how C-3PO and his old friends fare in the grand finale when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019, but in the meantime, stay tuned for whatever Daniels is teasing.
