Anthony Mackie Isn’t Happy With How The Falcon Died In Avengers: Infinity War

In last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, Sam Wilson was met with the same sad fate as half of the universe’s population, but according to Anthony Mackie, Falcon’s demise could’ve and should’ve been a lot more special.

Speaking to BUILD, the performer recalled having to act out the now familiar dusting effect for his character, while claiming that his death scene didn’t give him a lot to work with as an actor.

“I wish I had ended in a better way,” Mackie said. “We all disappeared. We evaporated. Thanos turned us into dust…So, I wish I had died in a better way than turning to dirt. Like, I feel like everybody who has died has had this cool death scene and we were on set and I’m laying down in the mud and I’m cold and the director goes, the Russo Brothers, they’re like, ‘You’re disintegrating! Think about you’re leaving Earth. What would you say?’ And I’m like, ‘Cap…?’ Dust. And I’m like, ‘Those were my last words?’ I felt like it could have been better for me, just as an actor.”

Indeed, it can be hard for an actor to make their fictional demise stand out when about half of their co-stars are suffering more or less the same fate, but it seems that Mackie has one idea for a death scene that would’ve given Falcon a finale to remember, explaining:

“I wish I was like running and Scarlett Johansson was there and I jump on it and take a bullet and she cries and I’m laying there and I say, ‘I did it for you,’ and she’s like, ‘You were always my favorite.’ And then you take the crane and you pan out as she passionately kisses me…And then RDJ picks me up like a baby and walks to his car and we drive away in a ‘67 fastback.”

Mackie went on to suggest that Sam’s story could then continue with a new Iron Man movie that takes inspiration from the 1989 comedy Weekend at Bernie’s.

Funnily enough, it currently looks like Falcon could have a much busier future in the Marvel franchise than Tony Stark. While it’s a popular prediction right now that Avengers: Endgame will be Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU swan song, it’s generally believed that the Infinity War sequel will also see the reversal of the snap that took Sam Wilson, among many others. Better yet, it was reported last year that Mackie will star opposite Sebastian Stan in a Falcon and Winter Soldier TV show, with Nick Fury possibly coming along for a ride.

From the sound of things, there should be a fair few Avengers: Infinity War fatalities who’ll have the chance to live again (and perhaps even die again) in future outings, but first, we’ll most likely find out how Falcon makes his return when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
