The upcoming Aquaman movie will be making its all-important Chinese debut a couple of weeks prior to its North American release and so, stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have taken the time to get their international audience pumped with this new promo.
The brief clip below sees the cast teasing incredible battles above and below the surface of the ocean. It’s also mentioned that Arthur Curry will be tasked with facing not one, but two villains – or as Momoa cockily puts it, two villains must face him.
As the promo makes clear, the action in James Wan’s flick won’t be exclusively relegated to Aquaman’s underwater worlds, though you probably shouldn’t expect the movie to have too much overlap with the rest of the DCEU.

The director has previously gone on record suggesting that the feature will contain no cameos from Arthur’s fellow Justice League alumni, and has implied that he almost views this project as a blank canvas to create his own vision for the character. What’s more, Wan seems very proud of the subaquatic environment he’s created for this film, and even talked Snyder out of introducing Atlantis in last year’s release.
It sounds like this flick is aiming to be the fresh start that the DCEU most likely needs and for what it’s worth, the movie seems to have at least earned the enthusiasm of Warner Bros. head Toby Emmerich, who said that Aquaman strikes a great balance between “fun and jeopardy, edge and wonder, comedy and tragedy.” We’ll see if Emmerich is all talk when the film hits North American theaters on December 21st, but not before it arrives in China on December 7th.
