The latest figures see Arthur Curry’s solo debut at a worldwide total of just over $748 million, putting the movie slightly ahead of the $746.8 million haul for Suicide Squad. At this stage, the only other DCEU flicks that Aquaman still has to beat are Wonder Woman and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which ended their respective theatrical runs at $821.8 million and $873.6 million. And if the recent projections are anything to go by, then Wan’s movie will ultimately beat each of these releases handily, with the Jason Momoa-led film now on course to be the first of its cinematic universe to pass the $1 billion mark.

Things aren’t going too badly for Aquaman on a domestic level either, with the feature’s second weekend gross of $51 million putting the movie’s US and Canada total at $188.785 million. At this rate, the film still has some catching up to do with the rest of the DCEU, with the next-lowest domestic earner being Justice League at $229.0 million, but unlike last year’s Zack Snyder-helmed release, Aquaman is set to sustain its success in the coming weeks.

However the film fares from here though, it’s safe to say that Arthur Curry has earned his right to a sequel, with Momoa and Warner Bros. both seeming game for a follow-up, even if Wan’s future in the franchise has yet to be confirmed. You can expect further news on Aquaman 2 in the coming months, but in the meantime, we’ll find out if the DCEU can keep its commercial momentum going when Shazam! hits theaters on April 5th, 2019.
