Once upon a time, a strong Disney heroine was nothing more than a wishful dream – but that wish has finally become a reality. Ariana DeBose, who voices Disney’s next princess in its upcoming animated film Wish, ensures that Asha will surely become the heroine everyone had been asking for.
The bold yet believable claim came during the actress’ visit to Good Morning America, where she was invited to promote the upcoming film showcasing the Kingdom of Rosas. Briefly touching on the subject of the BAFTAS when DeBose “did the thing,” the actress quickly went back on track expressing her thoughts on dreamy Asha. DeBose she ensures will become a “new Disney heroine,” with her own idealistic nature leading the character to become “her own hero.”
Promising a breath of fresh air to Disney, Wish will tell the story of Asha, a 17-year-old teenager opposing the ruler of the Kingdom of Rosas, King Magnifico (Chris Pine), wishing to bring peace to her community. Wish is the first Disney film portraying a Spaniard lead character, already becoming a buzzing title among Iberian Peninsula habitants who are highly anticipating the first film depicting the architecture from the lands off the coast of the peninsula made up of Spain and Portugal.
Despite the already obvious contrast between Wish and Frozen, Disney’s biggest animated hit in the last few years, the former still has no shortage of hype on social media. The film’s promotion is also occurring in a timely fashion, as DeBose’s name continues to go viral on social media as a result of her presence at the BAFTAS and the Tony Awards.
Wish will hit theatres on November 16, 2023.
