Arnold Schwarzenegger unreasonably angry with Jason Reitman for canning ‘Twins’ sequel after his father died

How dare he grieve for his deceased father?

Legacy sequels continue to be an acceptable substitute for creativity in the eyes of Hollywood, but one of the longest-gestating appears to be off the table once again after Arnold Schwarzenegger hinted that Triplets – the follow-up to Twins that’s been mired in development hell for decades – has been halted.

The gang was ready to get back together, with Tracy Morgan set to play the third Benedict sibling alongside Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, and Ivan Reitman returning to the director’s chair. The action icon and former governor of California seemed confident the project would still come to pass despite Reitman’s death in February of last year, but he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that his son – and Ghostbusters: Afterlife architect – Jason has effectively killed it off.

“Jason Reitman f*cked it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, “I never liked the idea” and put a hold on it. I’m developing another movie with Danny; he’s so much fun to work with and so talented.”

It sounds pretty unreasonable for Schwarzenegger to be so upset that a grieving son no longer wanted anything to do with a passion project being championed by his now-deceased father, but it does sound as though we’ll be getting another team-up with DeVito instead. That’ll have to do, but is anyone really going to be all that upset that Triplets isn’t happening?
