Arrow’s Manu Bennett Disappointed He Can’t Play Deathstroke On The Big Screen

For the longest time, Deathstroke was a rather obscure DC character. Much to our delight, Slade Wilson’s future is looking brighter than ever now, as the character recently appeared in a post-credits scene for Justice League, in addition to Warner Bros. kicking around the idea for a solo film. That’s all hugely exciting, especially because Joe Manganiello is absolutely perfect in the role, but so is Manu Bennett, and it’s a shame his time as Deathstroke has been limited to the small screen in The CW’s Arrowverse.

Understandably, the actor feels the same way. Speaking in a recent interview, he said that while he’s definitely happy for Manganiello, he’s also a bit bummed out about not being able to bring his take on the character into theaters.

“To be honest, when he was announced to do this role, I was very very happy for him.” Bennett revealed. “Of course, I was a little bit disappointed that I wouldn’t get to do such a wonderful opportunity of getting onto that big screen with Deathstroke.”

Continuing on, the Arrow star said:

But listen, I have had the wonderful opportunity to be a TV actor, and to spend the time it takes to cook a character. And sometimes, I don’t think you get that chance when you’re on the big screen. But as for Joe’s ability to get up there and do this character, I’m behind him, I hope, as much as everybody else is behind him.”

To be honest, the possibility of Deathstroke taking on a prominent role in the DC Extended Universe probably means we’ll see less of the character on The CW going forward. Evidencing that was Bennett’s Slade literally laying down his sword and declaring himself “Deathstroke no more” during a recent episode of ArrowRegardless, it’s important we note that he’s still alive, therefore the potential for future appearances exists.

But we digress. Whether it’s Manu Bennett or Joe Manganiello in the role, it’s great to see Deathstroke getting so much attention lately and we’re excited to see where DC takes the character next on both the big screen and small.
