Though it’s remained under lockdown ever since it was tentatively announced as Infinity War – Part II all those years ago, for Marvel Studios, Avengers 4 signals the end of one era and the start of the next.
And that’s not just some off-the-cuff guess; one look at the upcoming MCU slate tells us that Joe and Anthony Russo’s conclusive blockbuster exists on the precipice between Phase 3 and the super-secret Phase 4, which is due to kick off with the launch of Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel next summer.
Combine that with the nail-biting finale of Infinity War and it’s fair to say that the Russo Brothers have their work cut out for them if they’re to deliver a worthy follow-up to 2018’s biggest movie. And now, thanks to Omega Underground’s Christopher Marc, we’re learning that the sequel still has a ways to go before it’s ready to see the inside of a theater.
That’s because Avengers 4 will be heading back in front of cameras this summer for some reshoots, with things expected to wrap up in early September ahead of its release in May of 2019, which gives the Russos plenty of time to put the finishing touches on what’ll surely be sure the biggest film of the year.
As for what exactly these reshoots are for, that we don’t know, but we don’t imagine there’s any reason to worry here. After all, reshoots are extremely common for big blockbusters and in the case of this particular film, one with so many moving parts, characters and storylines, we’d actually be more surprised if there weren’t any reshoots. In other words, this should all be par for the course.
Besides, now that Avengers 4 is heading back into production, that means we should get some more set snaps over the summer. And with any luck, they might just give us a few clues as to how the heroes plan to undo Thanos’ devastating actions from Infinity War.
