Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been gradually seeding the Mad Titan’s ascendancy, dropping the Power gem, Space gem and Reality gem across Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World, respectively. While Thanos is still missing both the Mind and Soul gem, Age of Ultron‘s post-credits sting showcases the galactic menace yielding all-powerful glove for the Infinity Gauntlet.
Last time Marvelites glimpsed said amulet it was resting in Odin’s vault in Asgard, so how did the purple-skinned baddie acquire the glove itself? Well, according to Feige, the MCU actually features two Infinity Gauntlets. Just when we thought we had everything figured out, Marvel pulls the rug out from beneath us.
Here’s the executive talking to Crave Online:
“There are two different gloves,” Feige said. “That was not Odin’s vault that you see at the end.”
As it were, Josh Brolin’s supervillain is now in possession of one of the gloves, and it’s likely that Thanos will do his utmost to acquire this nebulous second Gauntlet before long – perhaps in Thor: Ragnarok or Infinity War – Part 1. Still, the Mad Titan is yet to hold even one of the Infinity Gems, hence his decision to finally force himself into action following the events of Age of Ultron. “Fine,” he grumbles. I’ll do it myself.”
For the uninitiated, Thanos is far and away one of the most powerful cosmic beings in existence, so it certainly spells bad news for the Marvel crew that he’s about to enter the fray. Plus, if he were to acquire all of the Gems and harness their collective power – whether it’s existing in an omnipresent state through the Space ruby, or controlling the past, present and future using the Time gem – his might would truly know no bounds.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters now.
