The decade-long culmination of a collaborative effort by countless individuals, Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to hit theaters later this month and is expected to obliterate the box office. Yesterday, we reported that since they went on sale a few weeks back, Infinity War has sold more tickets than the previous seven Marvel movies combined (that’d be Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange, Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man).
Obviously, the Powers That Be are doing their utmost to keep spoilers out of greedy hands and in a recent interview, Avengers: Infinity War co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed that they wrote and distributed fake pages of the script, and that “none of the actors have actually read the entire script, the real script.” Although it may be a cinch for fans to assume that no one involved would intentionally spoil the film, Marvel isn’t taking any chances.
“We can divulge nothing at this point. We worked really hard to protect the secrets of the movie because this is the end of 10 years of storytelling and I think a lot of people [have] emotionally invested quite a bit into the Marvel Universe so we want to make sure they have the best experience they can have when they go in to see the movie.”
“We wrote fake pages for the script, we distributed fake pages. None of the actors have actually read the entire script, the real script. Very few people actually know what’s going to happen in the movie.”
If you think that’s extreme, the blockbuster is just a couple weeks removed from its release and not even those in the movie have seen the final cut. Anthony Russo shares his brother’s opinion that because we’ve “emotionally invested quite a bit into the Marvel Universe,” Infinity War is a film “people need to see quickly” to ensure that nobody spoils it.
“Look, we know there’s a lot of very risible things that happen in the film and it’s hard, when you see it, not to talk about it, so we really wanted the whole world to be able to experience the film at the same time without it being tipped to what’s happening in the movie. We’ve been holding the film, we’re going to screen it for the first time a couple days before it opens worldwide.”
Whatever happens in Avengers: Infinity War, we don’t have long to wait now, as all will be revealed on April 27th. The safe money is on Captain America and/or Iron Man destined for the big sleep, but honestly, at this point, anything is possible.
