In a recent interview with Collider, director Joss Whedon revealed that the Blu-Ray/DVD of The Avengers will include 30 minutes of deleted scenes. Originally, Whedon planned to have a 3 hour cut hit theatres but decided to trim it down as he felt 3 hours would be a bit too self-indulgent.
Though the film is earning pretty positive reviews and fans seem to be loving it, I have heard complaints that the second half does let up on the pacing a bit. With that in mind, Whedon may be right, three hours may be pushing it.
That being said, if the extra footage is included on the Blu-Ray/DVD, then I’m sure most fans would be more than happy to sit through it, since they can do so at their own leisure.
Personally, I’m hoping that the Blu-Ray/DVD comes with more than just half an hour of deleted scenes. Given the film’s enormous box office take, I’m sure it will. The Avengers is a film that needs to go all out when it comes to special features.
Give us 4 or 5 hours of some solid behind the scenes documentaries and I’ll be a happy camper.
