While Avengers: Endgame is still a couple of days away from release, the upcoming Marvel movie has already been officially Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time of writing, the Avengers: Infinity War sequel has a score of 97% based on 116 reviews. In the MCU rankings, this puts the new flick in joint-first alongside Black Panther. While there’s every chance that the score will decline a little as the week progresses, the critical reception to Endgame still bodes phenomenally well for the film’s imminent release, adding further to the already insane levels of hype behind Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest work.
Needless to say, we can probably rule out bad buzz as one of the factors that might hinder Endgame’s performance at the box office. As it stands, the film is expected to gross upwards of $260 million domestically on its opening weekend, beating Infinity War’s record-breaking $257 million debut. Some analysts are even speculating that the feature has a good shot at hitting $300 million in its first three days – a figure that sounds both ridiculous and all too believable.
Just yesterday, ticket retailer Fandango announced that they’d sold out more than 4,000 showtimes in the United States. On Atom Tickets, meanwhile, Endgame managed to break the all-time pre-sales record a whole two weeks out from release. And over in China, where the film is already in cinemas, the movie comfortably smashed the previews record held by The Fate of the Furious, grossing an estimated $20 million from midnight screenings alone.
In short, this is shaping up to be a very good week for Marvel Studios, but you can judge for yourself if Avengers: Endgame is worth all the hype when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
