We all know Avengers: Endgame is going to be big. What we don’t know, however, if it’s going to match the heights of Infinity War (though it’s looking like it will), or what the MCU will look like when it’s all over and which of our favorite heroes is going to make it to the end credits. Still, if one thing’s for certain, it’s that Endgame is surely going to be 2019’s biggest release and will score an absolutely gargantuan opening weekend, which will mean there’ll be sold out screenings on opening night (particularly for the more exclusive IMAX tickets).
And where there’s scarcity there comes opportunity, which makes it not too surprising to hear that Thursday and Friday night tickets are already being offered for eye-watering prices on eBay. They’re being listed at around the $75-$100 mark, with the sellers presumably hoping that the MCU hype machine will be so mercilessly efficient that there’ll be fans who absolutely have to be there on opening night no matter the cost.
While you’d be an idiot to pay this much for a movie ticket, it probably is a good idea to book pretty far in advance if you plan on seeing Endgame on opening weekend. The three hour runtime means that a single screen can probably only show it 4-6 times per day depending on the cinema’s opening hours. You’ll probably be okay if you don’t mind turning up for a midnight or very early screening, but if you want to go in the evening, book fast.
That said, I can’t think of many movies that have come out that have actually had scalpers selling tickets prior to release. I definitely don’t remember this happening for Infinity War and while it’s not good news for fans, I’d wager the moneymen at Disney are rubbing their hands together with glee that Avengers: Endgame has driven Marvel fans so bananas.
