ComicBook.com reports that the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is now tracking for a massive opening weekend haul of $840 million globally. This record-breaking projection is attributed in part to the recent announcement that the film is headed for a China release on Wednesday, April 24th, giving the pic a couple more days to flourish in this important market.

An $840 million opening would comfortably beat the all-time record currently held by Infinity War, which managed $640.4 million globally on its first weekend. This figure breaks down as a $257.7 million haul domestically and $382.7 million internationally. It would be another two weeks before the film came out in China, where it managed an additional $199.3 million on its first weekend. Ultimately, Infinity War took in a global total of $2.048 billion, and currently ranks as the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time.

Time will tell if Endgame can top that total, but so far, the forecasts all point to a performance that’s at least as strong as last year’s release. Last month, for instance, Researcher Exhibitor Relations projected a domestic opening of $282 million, and given all the recent chatter around the film’s new posters and latest trailer, you can imagine that future forecasts will be similarly high.

You can judge for yourself if Avengers: Endgame is worth all the hype when the pic hits theaters on April 26th. In the meantime, it’s expected that tickets will go on sale this Tuesday.
