It seemed nearly impossible to kill Thanos at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, which is why fans became very creative with their theories of how the villain would be brought down in Avengers: Endgame. The most popular one that circulated the Internet was the idea that Ant-Man would crawl inside the antagonist’s butt and expand, thus rendering his enormous body into a purple mist. That obviously didn’t happen in the movie and, according to the film’s screenwriter Christopher Markus, would not have been successful even if it was attempted.
“Thanos could take a punch from the Hulk, we’ve seen that. And it stands to reason his whole body is at least as strong as that,” Markus says. “If Ant-Man expanded, he would be simply crushed against the immovable walls of Thanos’ mighty rectum.”
Though it’s pretty ridiculous that one of the writers of the second highest-grossing movie ever made has to answer questions about Thanos’ rectal strength, his explanation does make a great deal of sense. It’s obvious that he’s thought this through before. Maybe in the early drafts of the film, that’s how the scoundrel gets dealt with? Unlikely, yes, but anything can happen in the MCU.
Even if Ant-Man’s ascent up Thanos’ butt was the only way the evil Titan could be defeated, it’s unlikely that anyone really wants to see that nastiness. If for some reason they do though, there is a fan-made video of what that’d look like on the web because of course there is. Thankfully though, it’s not as graphic as one would imagine.
Now that Markus has given everyone the truth, hopefully this conversation about the wacky Avengers: Endgame butt theory will finally be put to bed. That is, until the next insane theory starts circulating the Internet. For now though, it’s important to take delight in the fact that there no longer has to be a discussion revolving around the rear end of a certain intergalactic super villain.
