Even though Avengers: Endgame just hit theaters less than two weeks ago – breaking numerous box office records in the process – it looks like Disney has already made concrete plans to add the newest MCU film to their upcoming streaming service. As reported by Deadline, the House of Mouse recently announced that Endgame will be made available on Disney Plus later this year, starting on December 11th.

While this decision might seem premature, it’s not as crazy as you would think. With a streaming date set for the end of the year, there’s no chance that the film’s availability on Disney Plus would impact ticket sales. Similarly, in the last decade or so, studios have begun releasing movies on Blu-Ray and DVD two to three months after they hit theaters. As a result, there’s a good chance that Endgame might hit store shelves sometime in July if past trends are anything to go by.

Also, let’s not forget that Disney has big plans for its upcoming streaming platform, especially when it comes to Marvel. There are already multiple MCU shows in the works, including one focused on Loki – presumably, an alternate reality version of the trickster god – another centered on Wanda Maximoff and Vision (dubbed WandaVision), and Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which will follow the exploits of both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.

As reported by Polygon, Disney plans to have more than 100 movies and 5,000 television episodes available when the streaming service launches, with more content set to trickle out in the first year. That being said, it doesn’t look like all your favorites will be there right from the get-go. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Coco, Incredibles 2, and Solo: A Star Wars Story won’t be present at launch, presumably because those four films are currently tied up on Netflix.

Thankfully, though, Marvel fans won’t have to wait long until they can watch Avengers: Endgame on an endless loop. But until then, know that it’s still playing in theaters and will be for quite a while.
