Now that we’ve all seen the Avengers: Infinity War trailer ten times over, and that crowd-pleasing money shot of Cap and Co. charging into Wakanda has been enshrined into our collective subconscious, we’re learning that the sequel’s super-sized battle scene features another two Avengers not seen in November’s teaser.
While appearing at Arizona’s ACE Comic Con this past weekend, Anthony Mackie (Falcon/Sam Wilson) entertained the audience with a set story involving Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Dave Bautista (Drax). The kicker? Neither Holland nor Bautista have been outright confirmed for the Battle of Wakanda, which leads us to believe that Mackie willingly dropped a small story spoiler at last week’s event.
The speech begins around the 19:20 marker, though we’ve transcribed the juicy details:
There was one day we were on set, and we were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running into battle, and Sebastian [Stan]’s hair is [waving around]. All of us are on set – there are like 40 superheroes total. And I look to my right, and I see Tom Holland [Spider-Man] and Dave Bautista [Drax the Destroyer].
We should stress that Mackie proceeds to tell an admittedly entertaining story about Bautista, a former MMA fighter, teaching the fresh-faced Tom Holland how to execute a Superman punch. Aghast, the Falcon actor ran over to ensure Dave Bautista and his newfound student weren’t at risk of infringing Marvel’s health and safety laws.
Point is, based on Mackie’s anecdote, neither Tom Holland nor Dave Bautista were actually involved in that exact scene, though the mere fact that both Spidey and Drax were nearby tells us that Joe and Anthony Russo have one or two secrets up their collective sleeve when it comes to Avengers: Infinity War.
And in the eyes of Chris Evans (Captain America), Infinity War has what it takes to become yet another sure-fire hit for Marvel Studios, before Avengers 4 arrives to finish the job in 2019.
