With Steve Rogers on the run after violating the Sokovia Accords, Avengers: Infinity War presented a slightly more rugged look for clean old Captain America, but as this newly shared concept art will demonstrate, things could’ve gone a lot more Logan for the First Avenger.
While Steve’s outfit in the eventual movie was ultimately a more well-worn and less showy version of his previous getup, these pair of pics suggest a whole other outfit for Cap. Of course, one element that stayed consistent between this look and the one that made the film is that beard, which may have been copied from Thor, but a lot of fans were still unhappy to see it go for Avengers 4.
Speaking of which, it’s a popular prediction right now that Steve will rock his last outfit in the Infinity War sequel. Though Evans’ initial contract only kept him in the MCU for six movies, the star decided to stick around for the film that will see out Marvel’s Phase 3. After that, however, it looks like both the actor and the character will have the closure they need to walk away.
Evans himself certainly seemed to back up these predictions of his departure when he tweeted a heartfelt message reflecting on his time in the role. And while the star has since insisted that his message contains no spoilers, and that he was simply feeling sentimental after an emotional day of filming, his explanation has done little to discourage fans from mourning Steve’s exit in advance.
In any case, with Cap’s Avengers: Infinity War beard now gone, we’ll see if the man himself is soon to leave when the sequel hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
