So much digital ink has been spilled over Avengers: Infinity War‘s impressive, super-sized cast that few have stopped to ask the question: who will make it out alive?
It’s the fuel that continues to feed all sorts of online speculation, as curious fans try to wade through the rumors in a last-ditch attempt to identify the deaths of Infinity War. And make no mistake, there’s no guarantee that your favorite cast member will wage war against Thanos and live to tell the tale.
Such is the stark warning from Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who spoke to Variety (h/t ComicBook.com) at the red carpet purple carpet event in Los Angeles yesterday evening, where the former told fans that while Marvel’s epic crossover gets emotional, the deaths will “feel justified” in the grand scheme of things.
We do whatever the story demands and nothing the story doesn’t demand. If something happens to a character you like, it will feel justified. The story will have built to the point that any other — nobody gets a ‘Get Out Of Jail For Free’ card. If they get stuck in a position where they can’t get out a jail, they don’t get out a jail. That said, we love everybody and we want to see them all again.
And if there’s one character whose head appears to be inching closer and closer to the chopping block, it’s Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Last seen in the company of those Asgardian refugees at the tail-end of Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Mischief looks set for a nasty encounter with Thanos. And we all know how brutal and unforgiving the Mad Titan can be.
Nevertheless, all will be revealed once Avengers: Infinity War begins its rollout on Friday, April 27th.
