Elizabeth Olsen is not impressed by Empire’s Avengers: Infinity War covers.
Just yesterday, the outlet posted seven – count ’em, seven – cover pieces for the Marvel blockbuster, with each designed to spotlight a small portion of Infinity War‘s character roster. And so, Iron Man was placed alongside Shuri; Nebula next to Black Panther; while Thor was left in the company of the Guardians, which is rather fitting when you consider that the God of Thunder’s Infinity War arc will largely revolve around the search for a new weapon.
When it comes to Scarlet Witch, in particular, Elizabeth Olsen’s costumed crusader was pictured alongside Doctor Strange, Okoye and Drax the Destroyer. Although it’s really the altered face that has people talking…and for all the wrong reasons.
Late last night, the actress posted the following cover to Instagram alongside the caption: “April 27th…Does this look like me? #scarletwitch #infinitywar #avengers.” No, we can’t say it does.
It’s a tactic which typically results in warped facial features that look like they belong in a Madame Tussauds wax museum. And, sadly, that’s very much the case here. Because just like Entertainment Weekly’s cover for Spider-Man: Homecoming, this Photoshop job sucks the life out of Elizabeth Olsen’s Avenger – so much so, in fact, that she looks more like a mannequin than anything else.
That’s a shame, really, as Empire’s other covers are truly spectacular – particularly the subscriber issue dedicated to the Mad Titan himself, Thanos, who is about to wage war against the Avengers in a bid to retrieve all six Infinity Stones and bring balance back to the universe.
Such an all-consuming masterplan involves wiping out half of the human race, leaving it to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to save humanity from the brink of extinction. And by all accounts, it looks certain that Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff will be accompanying Vision on his journey to Wakanda when Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th.
