Now that the, ahem, dust is beginning to settle from Infinity War, Marvel Studios has been left facing something of a conundrum. And we’re not just referring to the Avengers 4 title.
Instead, Kevin Feige and Co. will have to be extremely careful if they’re to market Avengers 4 without spoiling everything that has come before – or, worse, everything that is about to transpire on May 3rd, 2019. There will be blood, as the old saying goes.
io9 presented all of this to Feige during a recent press junket for Ant-Man and the Wasp, where the Marvel executive and all-around MCU expert was quizzed on whether the Avengers 4 trailer will feature characters like Black Panther. And, well, it’s bad news if you’re a fan of King T’Challa.
“No. Because he’s gone,” he said.
Short and, er, sweet, then. From the producer’s comment here, we can safely assume that this applies to all characters dusted by Thanos – from Star-Lord to Groot, Drax to Peter Parker, the Mad Titan’s genocide didn’t certainly didn’t discriminate – as Infinity War‘s dead heroes like won’t be revived until the very end of Avengers 4. If they’re revived at all, that is.
But the show must go on, and with the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Far From Home cramming up the MCU pipeline, the very future of Marvel’s cinematic franchise rests on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and their ability to undo Thanos’ extinction event. So, you know, no pressure.
Avengers 4 opens big on May 3rd, 2019, by which point Kevin Feige and Co. will be ready to introduce Captain Marvel to the fold. Chances are she’ll quickly become an ace in the hole for our flailing heroes, given her powers are practically unrivaled.
