Comic book fans are a passionate bunch.
They’re so passionate, in fact, that Avengers: Infinity War was able to surpass $2 billion worldwide with relative ease – frankly, it was really a question of when the studio’s blockbuster would become the fourth movie to ever do so, rather than if. But like all communities out there in the vast arrays of the Internet, Marvel’s isn’t immune from toxicity.
Case in point: according to Jeremy Renner, the Russo Brothers received death threats for omitting Clint Barton/Hawkeye from Infinity War, as the character seemingly has a prominent role to look forward to in Avengers 4.
Word comes by way of USA Today, where Renner admitted that he was a little taken aback by the response to Hawkeye’s absence, though some of that reaction soon became toxic.
‘It’s a nice feeling, I suppose. I think the Russo brothers got way too many death threats. I’m like, ‘Wow, dude, that’s intense. I’m sorry’.
Looking further afield, the actor is quietly confident that Avengers 4 will be able to deliver the goods come 2019, after he told USA Today that next year’s sequel will be an “awesome” finale to the Marvel Cinematic Universe…so far.
Everybody’s got to bite their tongue. But if you like Infinity War, there’s some stuff to come. What I do know is it’s going to be awesome.
Details of Clint Barton’s significant role in the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 remain under lock and key, and with Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel still waiting in the wings, it’ll be some time yet before we know the full details of Hawkeye’s evolution. Ronin appears to be the safe bet, but in a sequel that’s said to include elements of time travel and alternate timelines, we can’t be too sure…
