When Avengers: Infinity War touches down on May 4th, it’ll see Thor wielding a new weapon. That much we know. Dubbed Stormbreaker, the hammer-axe hybrid has already been revealed thanks to some merchandise and if recent promotional material is on the level, then it would seem that the God of Thunder obtains it while on a mission with Groot and Rocket Raccoon.
Rumor has it that Thor will wind up being severely beaten by Thanos and thrown out into space, where he meets up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. From there, he heads off to visit the Dwarf King Eitri, who forged Mjolnir, and it’s here where he ends up finding Stormbreaker. However, the weapon is slightly unfinished, so Teen Groot uses some of his wood for the handle.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Infinity War tie-in merch has revealed juicy details about the upcoming event film. The Captain America figure gave us a look at Steve Rogers’ new vibranium shield that he’ll get from Black Panther in Wakanda, while the Thanos model showed the Mad Titan in his full regalia, after the trailers so far had only displayed him stripped of his armour. Suffice it to say, there’s been a lot for fans to feast on lately, and that continues today.
Seen in the gallery below is some new Infinity War promo art and while we do get a good look at several of the titular heroes, perhaps most exciting of all is that we see more of both Spidey’s new Iron Spider suit and Thor’s sightly different armor. It’s not exactly breaking the mold when it comes to design, mind you, but it is a change from what we’ve seen him wear previously.
Beyond that, several other characters are featured here as well, including Black Widow, Iron Man, Rocket, Doctor Strange and a few others. For the most part, everyone appears the same as they have in previously released promo art, but it never hurts to get another look at the gang, right?
Besides, with Black Panther now out in the open – and absolutely destroying the box office, might we add – it’ll surely be just a matter of time before Marvel really revs up the marketing campaign for Avengers: Infinity War. After all, the event movie is only a few months away, and with the high that the MCU’s currently riding thanks to Ryan Coogler’s aforementioned spinoff, you can bet that the studio will be putting everything they have into making sure Joe and Anthony Russo’s superhero extravaganza becomes 2018’s biggest film.
