Even though we finally received the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War a couple months back, fans are dying to see more teasers before the big team-up flick storms cinemas. Of course, we’ll surely get another full trailer or two before opening weekend arrives, but in the meantime, things are beginning to heat up, with a Marvel Cinematic Universe recap video and international teaser surfacing just the other week. Not to mention that huge troll from the studio, too.
Naturally, Infinity War also has a ton of tie-in merchandise to go along with it and as we inch closer and closer to its release, some of that is starting to surface via leaks. For instance, just the other day, thanks to a Funko POP toy, we got a look at Thor’s new weapon in the movie – Jarnbjorn.
It’s the Wrecker of Worlds; a Dwarven-forged battle axe that first featured in Marvel’s comics back when Thor was deemed unworthy to wield his precious hammer – a recurring theme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, too. But that’s not all, as even more Funko POP toys have now surfaced and they provide new looks at Iron Man, the Hulkbuster suit and the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.
Of course, the most interesting thing here is Iron Man’s new and improved suit. It’s been seen before, of course, in various other promotional material, but it’s still nice to get yet another look at it. With those wings on the back and some sort of arm cannon that he seems to be wielding, it’s definitely a step up from his previous armor and should no doubt come in handy in the fight against Thanos.
Speaking of which, the Mad Titan is also featured here though unfortunately, his figure doesn’t offer up much. He’s looking a bit more purple than in the trailer (where he sported more of a pink hue) and is seen with his all powerful Infinity Gauntlet, but other than that, there’s not much to take away from this. Ditto for the Hulkbuster toy, which does give us more of a detailed look at the armor, but sadly, doesn’t hint at what its new abilities may be.
Still, as is always the case, we’ll take what we can get. After all, once Black Panther is out of the way, you can bet that it’ll be all hands on deck for Joe and Anthony Russo’s superhero extravaganza, which is apparently going to be “one of the biggest things in film history.”
Or at least, that’s according to Chris Hemsworth. The actor’s about to reprise his role as Marvel’s God of Thunder for the second year on the trot, and recently had this to say:
This is one of the biggest things in film history and to be a part of it was just incredible. I think what these characters are about to face — with Thanos — there’s been nothing quite like it. There are 76 cast members or something like that. I think what people are going to be excited about is what I was excited about and that’s Thor meeting the Guardians and Iron Man meeting Doctor Strange.”
So, will Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ next outing truly be the event movie to end all event movies? Will it shatter box office records on its way to a $2 billion gross? And just how will Iron Man and co. take down the Mad Titan? All will be revealed once Avengers: Infinity War touches down in theaters on May 4th.
