Even though I probably wouldn’t count him as being among my favorite mutants, I can’t help but be intrigued by the prospect of a Gambit movie. After all, if you were also a kid growing up in the 1990’s, then you no doubt remember how he was a prominent member of the team in not only the comic books, but in the highly revered X-Men: The Animated Series as well.
Even so, it became quite hard to have faith in this project after it spent several years in developmental hell. But to our delight, things seemed to get back on track earlier today with word coming down that none other than Gore Verbinkski (The Ring, Rango) has been enlisted to direct the picture, which is set to star Channing Tatum. Having also helmed a few of the Pirates of the Caribbean films in his day, one would think he’s capable of overseeing something on a scale as massive as that of a superhero movie.
And if that weren’t enough, rumors are swirling that none other than the current 007 – Daniel Craig – is being courted for the antagonistic role of Mr. Sinister. Not to take anything away from the titular hero himself, but that particular villain is long, long overdue for his big screen debut and, if Craig can be secured, I guarantee that I’ll be buying a ticket on opening weekend.
Not being one to afford themselves some rest, fan art favorite Boss Logic has already drawn up a poster for the Gambit movie, and it looks pretty sweet. Riffing off the Justice League “All In” posters, it shows the hands of one Remy LeBeau laying down some action and can be seen in the gallery below (along with some of Boss Logic’s other work).
Take a look and as always, head on over to the comments section afterwards to share your thoughts!
