The past few months have been quite chaotic for The Batman, what with Ben Affleck reportedly looking to depart the role at one point and a lot of changes going on in the director’s seat – which will be occupied by Matt Reeves. However, everything seems to be back on track now and all is settled. Don’t take that to mean that the wheels are about to start spinning, though, as Variety reports that production on the film won’t get underway until 2018.
With Reeves busy working on the next Apes film until at least the end of June, Justin Kroll says that the Caped Crusader’s solo outing is being pushed back.
Hearing Matt Reeves contracted to work on APES till at least end of June, so production on BATMAN likely not starting till 2018

He also mentions that any casting news that crops up now is nothing but BS, as the director has no time to meet with anyone until the summer.
Also means any casting rumors you hear are likely BS seeing that he wouldn't have time to meet with any talent till at least July

So, while everything does seem to be in place for The Batman to get moving, it appears as if it’s going to be a while before the project actually heads in front of cameras. That’s definitely disappointing for fans, but we can at least take comfort in the fact that all the turmoil that plagued the movie earlier this year has been put to rest.
In related news, Ben Affleck took to Facebook today to make a bit of a surprising announcement, revealing that he’s completed a stint in rehab for alcohol addiction.
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
According to EW, Ben’s treatment has not affected The Batman in any way and he’s still hard at work on the script, alongside Geoff Johns. We don’t have anything else to go on other than that, but it’s good to hear that all is well with the actor and that production has not been affected by his personal issues.
The Batman may still be quite a ways away, but tell us, what are you hoping to see from the film once it eventually reaches theaters? Let us know in the usual place!
